Ruff Patches formed in 2008 with the intent of creating a diverse mix of artistic rock-and-roll infused with catchy hooks and a hint of pop. Founding members Jesse Simpson (guitar/vocals) and David Mancini (bass/vocals) enlisted the talent of long-time friend/band-mate/collaborator Griffin Maples (guitar/vocals) to bring an edgy punch to an otherwise strongly rhythmic and melodic sound. The addition of Tony Rymniak on drums completed the sound with his powerful beats. The music is decisively Louisvillian - all are seasoned veterans of the Bardstown Road indie-rock scene, being involved in a number of bands dating back to 1994 – Alderon, Catfish, The Electrolytes, The Glasspack, Because of Chauncy, and Nap to name a few. Their music has been stated as sounding like “melodic 60’s metal power-pop”. Currently, Ruff Patches is finishing an at-home studio full-length album featuring 15 songs written over the last 10 years, but compiled and arranged with the energy and focus of the current line-up. Influences include: Violent Femmes, Velvet Underground, the Beach Boys, Pink Floyd, and all Louisville bands from 1990 to today.
