Formed in 1991, Dragonera toured So. Cal. from '91 to '96. They built a loyal following that was able to sell out numerous venues throughout the region including The Whisky and The Roxy on the Sunset Strip. No easy task in Hollywood. All this without the help of a manager. Spending many late nights at Kinko’s and promoting at local bars.
Dragonera started life in early 1991 with lifelong friends Gary “Garro” LaRose and Chris “Xris 3” Sims. The original lineup included Jake “the Snake” on Bass and Steven Stats on guitar. One of their first gigs was at the Treehouse in Diamond Bar, CA where they won a local talent contest. Later on that year, Jeff “Stami” Stambaugh, also lifelong friend, stepped in on guitar and the band moved forward to seek out a new bassist and work on writing new songs.
Dragonera recorded their first 5 song “District End” EP in mid 1991 with Stami on Bass. Early in 1992 Albert "Zippy" Allende was recruited later that year after he answered the wrong classified ad while seeking a bass position in a Jazz band. Boy was he in for a ride! The band, complete now, played their first official club gig, at The Whisky’s' No Bozo's Jam on Nov. 30 1992. Very soon after that the band formed a working relationship with several local promoters. Most notably, Patrick Bacich (Inland Empire) and Mike Giangreco (Hollywood).
Dragonera disbanded in 1996 and have reunited several times since then. Most recently they got together at Stami’s house in Arizona playing a club gig at Phase54 in Tempe and now have the taste for more. Awaken the Dragon!
