Music and performing have been apart of my life from an early age. I started singing at the age of 3. My family played a huge part in my musical development. Growing up, my mom played piano and my dad played guitar. I sang my first solo at my grandparents church in the small town of Breckenridge, Texas. There was always a spot for me to sing because my grandmother lead the music service. I always looked forward to going to church as a result:)
Growing up in Dallas, I had various kinds of formal training as a musician, taking piano off and on, but mostly playing by ear. I enjoy playing piano and also still want to learn to play the drums! I wrote her first song at age 15 for my sister, who at the time, was graduating high school and would soon be heading off to college. It was in this time, I discovered my love for songwriting. In 1997, with the encouragement from my family and voice teacher, I headed off to Nashville to pursue music and go to college. I studied Commercial Music for two years and then switched to Music Business. I graduated with a Music Business degree from Belmont University. During this time, I studied with great writers and musicians, and made lifetime friends in the business. I went on to work at Forefront Records in Marketing during the day and continued to perform as I could at night. My time in Nashville ended late in 2003 when I headed back to Dallas. I'll always love Nashville and the opportunities provided there for musicians, but I felt it was time to come home for a while and re-connect with family and try some new things. Since then, I have been trained with Tom McKinney from One True Voice Studios in the speech-level singing technique and have enjoyed singing in various cover bands in the DFW area. In addition to continuing writng and producing music, my goal is to help students I work with understand the business behind the music and to encourage them in the musical style that suits them best. I have worked with various established Dallas artists as well as artists in "training" and performed at House of Blues, Poor David's Pub and Opening Bell. I live in Dallas and love so much about this city!!
