Steve Hayes and the Hurricanes / Bio

Steve Hayes has shared his talents and stories with fans for almost 30 years. Steve grew up in Philadelphia and was playing local blues clubs at age 13. By his 20s, Steve was traveling and playing the blues up and down the eastern seaboard. Steve has opened for many big name acts, such as Big Bill Morganfield (son of legendary Muddy Waters), The Blues Brothers, Matt “Guitar” Murphy, and Leslie West of Mountain. With his mastery of the blues and fiery guitar licks, Steve controls the emotions of the crowd. Whether it is a sweet and soulful song or “in your face” rock tune, this guitar player has paid his dues and the audience knows this is the essence of blues.”

Ric Jensen moved to Roan Mountain, Tennessee from Tampa, Florida in 2007. For nearly 30 years, Ric and his trusty Precision have held the bottom down for bands throughout the Southeast. He has played rock, country, and pop, but his love was always the blues, and he has found his niche with the Hurricanes. Ric is a solid “pocket” player and believes locking in with the drummer is the key to a tight rhythm section.

Andy Houston is a native of Tennessee. A former BMI recording artist, Andy was initially inspired by bands such as The Animals and The Beatles. He is a multi-instrumentalist who plays keyboards, guitar, and harmonica, and he is proficient in a variety of genres, always infused with his love of the blues. Andy's original compositions have been used as theme music for a variety of internet promotions. His experience, enthusiasm, and talent make him a valuable addition to The Hurricanes.

David McCollum started playing drums in the seventh grade. As a senior in high school, he won the John Philip Sousa Award and pursued percussion throughout college, graduating with a degree in percussion. David has played with the Tupelo Symphony Orchestra and a variety of bands throughout the Southeast. He has played jazz, country, rock, and bluegrass. David also plays piano, guitar, and mandolin. David says bottom-line he is a percussionist and believes his job is to hold the rhythm section tight and even, and he brings a solid foundation to the band.
