Southern Cali-based singer/songwriter Sumika Forbes originates from the island of Maui, Hawaii, where she learned to write songs at a young age.
As her passion for music grew, Forbes learned to play ukulele. Performing across the island, she soon entered music competitions, peddling her original songs. Her following grew within the region, and she was invited to study and train with many of the local heroes within the genre, including Grammy-winning slack-key guitarist and ukulele performer Keoki Kahumoku.
As a teen, Forbes joined R&B girl group Lo-Boy in Maui, where she furthered her skills: in the studio, as well as writing, performing and exhibiting her talents at numerous public events.
She then packed up her ambitions and relocated to Southern California to focus on a solo career in the pop/dance genre. Teamed with L.A. producer Michael Raphael, Forbes released debut album “Miracle” this year on iTunes, Amazon.com and numerous other online music stores. She has also garnered airplay on a number of online radio outlets and continues to receive positive reviews. Her vocal style has been compared to Rihanna, Selena Gomez and Pink. Forbes has been working hard, not only in the studio, but she is also set release a music video for the album’s title track, "Miracle" soon to be available on youtube.
