Robert Secrist was born in Buffalo, NY in 1956. He began to study the piano at age 4 and turned to guitar at age 12. Robert studied with Oswald Rantucci of Buffalo, Oscal Ghiglia at the Aspen Music Festival and Leonid Bolotine at the Mannes College of Music. Robert has also studied with Andres Segovia. He graduated in 1979 with highest honors and became a faculty member upon graduation. Prior to graduating from Mannes, Robert was a winner in the IVth International Alirio Diaz Competition, in Caracas, Venezuela (the First North American to win a prize), made his NY Debut at Carnegie Recital Hall, and released a recording of Sor and Giuliani on the Musical Heritage Society Label. Robert has performed throughout the United States, including concerts at the Abraham Goodman Hall and the 92nd Street Y in NYC. His second recording for Musical Heritage, Contemporary Spanish and Latin Americam Guitar Music (MHS 4168645), released in 1980, has been a best seller for 30 years, and is widely regarded as a definitive recording of the literature it contains. Robert is also co-owner, along with his wife Erica Kalick, of Erica's Rugelach & Baking Co, a Brooklyn, NY based specialty bakery.
