TAYAZAWAN aka ZION
Zion, as he is known to his family and friends, is hailing from the enchanting island of Trinidad & Tobago. Born, Roger Combs on November 13th in the Eastern part of the island, Tayazawan grew up in a musical home with his legal guardians. He has the support of all his family and close friends in his home town, Laventille and Movant. Tayazawan has been fortunate enough to perform in Best Village, a local folk song and dance theatre. At first glance, you will see a very humble and conscious man, when you take another look, revealed find an amazing artist on the rise.
He was a part of two bands UpLifters and Signs Int'l in 1997, they performed at various local venues that year. After the carnival season he visited an engineer buddy of his named Daryl Braxton who worked at Engine Room Studios. At the time he was the producer for Chilli D and Tayazawan just happened to be in the right place at the right time. This gave him the opportunity to be a part of the music industry. He has had the pleasure of performing alongside artist such as Berbise, Zoelah, Ronnie Macintosh, Bunji Garlin, Maximas Dan, Buju Banton and many more. In 2000, he performed at the Soca Monarch competition alongside “Scrunter.” Tayazawan, has been an singer/songwriter, since 1994.
Maintaining a constant line of commitment to his industry and his community, he started to fine tune his career by entering the Cocoa Cola School Tours to bring awareness to a crucial cause like HIV/ AIDS. During the tour he performed at venues like Upper Level, Spectacular Forum, Petro Tran and Bryan Lara Promenade. With his great love for music and performing arts, a humble Tayazawan makes an effort to always remember the youth and has reasoned with the local youths about violence in their communities, using his God given talents, as he says "spread love to all and don't leave any of God's children forsaken". This is truly an artist with infinite possibilities.
Tayazawan, migrated to the US in 2003, there he met up with his friend Cherry who invited him to the studio where he worked. He recorded his first US track entitled 'Found Love'; he linked up with another brethren Howard Hughes who helped him to network for shows in the Brooklyn and the Tri-State area. He then recorded his first video entitled “Love, Joy and Harmony.” Now that he had become acclimated to the American Culture, he is enjoying the response of love and culture of music in the US. In 2006 he performed with the Request Band, Evolution Band and artist Khari Kill, Jah Bami, Jahspa, Lyrikal and many more. His performance at an amateur night in Brooklyn named 'Dat Nah Mek It' he met management Empress K Inc. in 2007, who assisted in his growth as he is on a journey to sprd God’s message through the Universal Language-Music.
Tayazawan, records at Ahtik Studios, QuabLab, EL PAW in his community, making sure to support these local businesses. His current completed albums are “Fire Fi Bun” and “Wha She Want.” Since then Tayazawan stays practiced and works diligently to master his God given talent. He frequently performs at national venues, preferably any Afro-Carib World Festival celebrating his people and culture. He is an independent artist and NITUL a family friend presently co-manages his career. Tayazawan is a new father and is enjoying, learning and fulfilling his role. He resides in Brooklyn with his family. Look out for his album coming to a store near you.
