Distant Haven: A refuge of darkness, light, and the gray that lurks between the plains. Crossing through the passages of time, music sent forth by the gods to enlighten the masses upon the nations.
In 2004, drummer/vocalist Daryl Crowell, guitarist Rodney Wess (Former lead guitarist of the CO metal band “Apathy”), and bass player Antwan Harvey would form the metal band “Lament”. Inspired by the idea of having a female metal vocalist, the band played several shows with “Crystal/Kaos” from 2005-2006.
The band would spend the next 4 years searching for a permanent vocalist, and would go on to play with several guest vocalist including “B-Dogg” from the Colorado metal band “Apathy”, “Hailen” vocalist, musician, and local promoter, & Vocalist/Filmmaker Steven M Garza. On several occasions Daryl “Durrell” Crowell would sing behind the drum kit, and made the decision to become the bands vocalist in 2008. Around this same time the band wanted a more original name and a fresh new start and dropped the “Lament” title to become “Distant Haven”.
Sharing the stage with local bands such as Apathy, Horse, Cattleist, & No Face, Distant Haven would go on to shred several venues throughout the Colorado area. After a short Hiatus, the band reformed once again in 2010 adding guitarist Oliver “Ollie” Michael to the band.
With nearly 50 years of experience split between the 4 members, the band brings a variety of metal to the music they play. Wess’s thrash core, mixed with strong neo-classical, blues and Spanish inspired solo’s, along with Harvey’s innovative approach to the bass, Crowell’s in-depth cymbal, drum and vocal work, paired with Michael’s hard edged rhythms help complete Distant Haven’s mass appealing sound.
