Self-funded and solely independent, Brent Gee pushes the elements of acoustic looping to new limits as a looping artist. With many similarities to Howie Day, Brent creates a collection of tones that add up to a sound that matches a full band. However, his strong influence of alternative rock, funk, punk, and metal creates a recipe for a original style of acoustic writing and performing that transcends a acoustic rock aesthetic.
"You can call my music whatever you like. I'd like to think anyone would like something from my performance. Being a graduate student in music performance (sax) , I am influenced by everything from jazz to reggae, to metal. However, I grew up listening to bands like Nirvana, Incubus, 311, Pearl Jam, The Cure, Deftones, Tool, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers so I tend to stray away from a acoustic style that is considered pop acoustic, Its time for something different."
Brent has performed for small coffee shops to club venues stretching across the country since 2005. Currently calling Minneapolis, MN his home, Brent has opened for such national acts as Trampled by Turtles, Goodyear Pimps, Far From Falling, Sick of Sarah, Tim Mahoney, Afro-man, Mark Mallman, Carnage, and Quietdrive. He is currently in the process of writing and recording his official debut EP.
"I have released a lot of singles throughout the years, never a EP or album. It is difficult to afford studio time when you are a starving musician, with no backing label. A lot of people don't understand it cost money to record, mix, and master a song, and to be honest, most of the songs I have wrote before, I didn't think they were worthy to be put on a collection. The new songs I feel are conveying the rock style I have in my head onto acoustic. I just have to raise the money to finish the EP. Easier said then done."
In 2011, Brent's acoustic single "Eraser" was featured on Cities 97 acoustic sunrise and sunset. (Minneapolis, Minnesota radio station) and Minnesota college radio.
Many acclaim that "singer-songwriters" are labeled as too simplistic or organic in comparison to the electronic influence of the pop movement of today. Music is consistently weathered by the storm of evolution. Brent Gee looks to add his own style and edge towards the evolution of acoustic music
