The question has been heard over and over, in all circles, and it never lets up: “When are we going to see a new original rock band that kicks ass and tears it up like the great ’70s and ’80s rock acts?”
Such an animal cannot be manufactured or thrown together for profit. True music fans would see right through it. It has to be real, just like in the day when chemistry ruled and great musicians came together to play and write music for themselves and their fans, not just for critics and industry suits. Real rock, with a real message.
Enter Beyond the Cage, a heavy, dynamic collaboration from Toronto, Canada.
“We want to carry the torch from the greats and give the world a new, fresh version of where those bands left off,” says Tracy Brett, the band’s lead vocalist. “We also really dig the artistry behind bands like Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters and Kings X, along with our respective heroes in punk, early metal and classic rock. TJ (Honke, guitar), Brian (Murphy, drums, backing vocals) and Greg (Plant, bass, backing vocals) are absolutely awesome to work with. I was always clear that I wanted to collaborate with highly skilled musicians who could compose and deliver powerful material. I’ve got that in spades with these guys.”
Dig a little deeper into the Cage, and an inspiring, eye-opening message in the spirit of an angry society is revealed. No boy-meets-girl songs here. The Cage’s lyrics address the truth about our crumbling society and how we can begin to affect change. “Sure, we’re sticking our necks out by writing about what’s really going on,” says Brett. “But millions of people are fed up, and so are we. It’s time to get beyond the cage of our enslavement and empower each other in creating a world that works better for everyone… and rock out while doing it!”
