Steve Hamende / Bio

I just want to share what I do with y'all in the hopes that it makes a connection with you. After all, what is music, but a way of putting life to song? I hope you enjoy the fruits of my "labor". --SH

Steve Hamende grew up singing from a very young age. Having parents who were both music majors in college, it seemed almost clandestine that music would play a big part in this Illinois born and Texas raised singer/songwriter. “One of the earliest memories I have of singing and ‘playing’ is when I was no more than 4…The whole family was gathered around my mom‘s piano before Christmas making a tape of Christmas music to send back to family members in Illinois.” Soon, Steve was engaged in the youth choir at Saints Cyril & Methodius Catholic church in his home town, Granger, TX and also joined the High school band where he played French Horn and was Drum Major of the marching band for 2 years.

By the middle of his senior year, he and his two brothers (one younger-Joey, one older-Scott) began performing at local talent showcases in Georgetown, TX. Shortly after graduating High school, he and his brothers formed County Rd 354, a band highlighting their musical talents. Steve played bass and took the reigns as front man, singing almost all of the lead vocal parts. After a few successful years the brothers decided to follow different paths and CR 354 came to an end. Following the split, Steve took a much needed break and started teaching himself to play acoustic guitar. He soon started writing his own music, heavily styled in the “Old school Nashville Sound”. After about a year and a half on hiatus Steve found himself itching to get back to doing what he loves… playing for an audience. As a musical outlet, he started attending open mic jams at an Austin club and eventually began playing bass for a band called Outlaw Underground. The band recorded one album together before parting ways.

In 2008, Steve got the opportunity to step up to the big leagues. Former Outlaw Underground guitarist, Quintin Dubec, had been playing with Texas Country star Rick Trevino for a couple of years and they were soon to be in need of a singing bass player. “I was so excited to have the chance to play and sing for such a talented vocalist and all around musician. There I was, actually singing and playing the songs that punctuated my high school days and I’d been playing in cover bands for several years, with the guy that made them famous. It was pretty surreal.” Steve stayed on as Rick’s full time bassist and harmony singer for just over three years, all the while seizing opportunities to play several shows as a “Hired Gun” for such artists as Wade Hayes, Heath Wright of Ricochet, and Trent Willmon. Also during that time, he was asked to add harmony vocals to a couple of tracks that Rick had been recording in the studio for a “Heritage” album. They traveled across the southwest US and Mexico and even had the opportunity to tour Italy, Scotland, Germany, and Iraq. “All other trips combined, Nothing, I mean NOTHING compares to the experience I had performing for our troops!!”

Since leaving the Trevino band, Steve has come into his own, continuing with his writing and, as always, performing as many shows as his voice will allow. Whether it’s solo in an acoustic setting or with his full band “The Slackers”, it’s always a great show, full of music that’s sure to make you feel something.

Steve plans on releasing a full length studio album sometime in the very near future.
