Formed in Santa Cruz, California, in the early 90’s. Rough House has been through some personnel changes since it’s inception by bass player Steve Knobles. The band took a short hiatus in the mid 90’s, while Steve searched for a new guitar player. In 1995 that search ended when Ricky Torres moved to Santa Cruz from the Bay Area and walked in to Steve’s guitar shop to try out some amps. They have been playing together ever since. With the new addition to the band in drummer Steve Nutting, a former band mate of Torres, Rough House is now complete and moving in the direction that they’ve always wanted, which was to get super tight and write more original material. With a new record in the works to capture this live experience and the sonic terrains of their new material everything is falling into place. Their repertoire consists of some classic covers done in their own heavy/funky fashion as well as a respectful load of catchy originals.
The influences can be heard right away in the vein of artists like Hendrix, ZZ Top and early Memphis R&B and various Blues artists, among others. An underground favorite in the Santa Cruz area for years, the best way to describe this band is electrifying! Always packing the joint with a good time! They just seem to keep reeling in new fans in the area or wherever they play. Rough House is currently only working on original material and polishing up the rest before adding any more covers to their already danceable set list. The best is yet to come!
