When we first met on a school bus in the fall 2003, we had absolutely no idea what the path ahead had in store for us. We aren’t positive, but we think our lack of ESP was to blame for this. What we do know for sure is that we were both hip-hop junkies, and that we shared a strong desire to pursue a future in music. So, we put our heads together and came to the conclusion that we should start a rap group, which we did. And we named that group the Deadly Duo. And we are not your average hip-hop group (I bet you’ve never heard that one before).
Now this is where you probably expect to read a whole plethora of reasons as to why WE think we are so awesome and original, but let’s be honest, it’s not like we’re going to be objective. So instead of a narcissistic self-evaluation, here are some recent facts: In 2013, we won hip-hop duo of the year at the IMEA’s (International Music and Entertainment Awards), and the title track from our first mix-tape “Light Side of the Moon” was nominated for hip-hop song of the year. We also finished up a new mix-tape, called Psychology, which has received rave reviews since its release in January 2014. Mike Roe of What’s Up Magazine said the project has the potential to be “really, really big,” while Underground On Top Online called it “amazing,” and compared it to classic old school Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.
We could go on and on quoting the nice things that people have said about us (at the very least another sentence or two), but in the interest of time, we shall opt to trade their opinion of us for our more knowledgeable own. One thing that most people don’t realize about us is that while we are a hip-hop duo, we have both been heavily influenced by every single genre of music. Because of this we factor many different sounds into our live performance, and since we use several talented musicians to achieve this (some would call this “a band”), we have come to realize that anyone who doesn’t enjoy our performance probably just hates music in general. So in conclusion: we love what we do, and to us this is very much an art. An art that we care about so much that we treat it like a business; a business in which we are our own venture capitalists. But most importantly, a business that we hope keeps your head bobbing for years to come.
