An ever-evolving singer-songwriter, Kevin Masch fuses folk, rock and the blues in everything he creates. His ability to present a picture for the audience through uncommon strum-patterns and heartfelt lyrics is rooted in a genre of music that has been reinventing itself throughout the century.
Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, Kevin Masch was writing songs and creating art long before he started playing guitar at the age of 17. Inspired by Folk and Blues legends such as Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, James Taylor, Ray Charles, and John Lee Hooker, just to name a few, Kevin decided he wanted to pay homage to those to came before him out of complete admiration and respect for the art.
“I was raised on James Taylor, so Folk music has been ingrained in my blood,” said Masch. “Technically the first concert I went to was a Bob Dylan show when I was in my mother’s womb. I like to think that it’s one reason I make music the way I do.”
Drawing from personal experiences as well as the world around him, Kevin’s music has an earthy quality to it that can put you at ease or inspire you to make a difference in the world around you. Blue collar values and a modern concept of the roles we play in the community around us are found at the heart of Kevin’s lyrics. The ever changing landscape in his own life is the inspiration for his music.
“I like to travel and I think you can hear that in my songs,” Kevin says of his songwriting. “Songs of longing for and of finding home.” Some would say we are all searching for home and for Kevin; home is both physical and metaphysical. It’s a place to call your own and a place to be your true self.
