Switzerland based singer-songwriter Ajay Mathur’s music doesn’t fit any particular music genre, as the melodies and lyrics take on a life and style of their own. His new four-song EP, Come See Conquer, Mathur’s music, with its wide scope of traditional elements and pure songwriting skills, can best be described as “Americana”.
The title track, “Come See Conquer,” with its infectious New Orleans-like groove, is a humorous, slightly dramatic twist on the modern day serenade. Mathur describes the inspiration for the track as “the intensity of falling in love and the hopelessness that accompanies it.” The song uses the metaphor of a doctor/patient relationship, in order to describe love’s power to ‘cure all.’
“Temporary” is a cynical yet serious take on the roles independent women need to play to make it in a fast-paced, multi-tasking world. “All For You” is an honest, back-to-the-basics, straight from the heart ballad that highlights Mathur's mellow side. “Flying to the Moon,” with its crossover country feel, touches on the topics of a fulfilled life, aging graciously, and the loss and loneliness that affect some of us in the twilight of our lives. The four songs in this collection each stand on their own, and together they are a rich combination that once again highlights the diversity of this exceptional songwriter.
Mathur produced, recorded and mixed all of the songs on Come See Conquer. He also plays the guitars along with Chris Winiker and Richard Koechli (a good friend of Mathur’s who recently received the Swiss Blues Award). Fausto Medici is featured on drums and Richard Hugener on bass guitar. Lorenzo Medici plays the sax on the title track’s riff, and Steve Birrer brings in his lucid pedal steel on “Flying to the Moon.”
Mathur, born in New Delhi, India, celebrated success in his European home of Switzerland with his rock group 'Mainstreet' in the 80s and 90s. Come See Conquer is his second solo release, following his 2011 full-length release, A Matter of Time. A Matter of Time produced four award-winning singles including "Communicate" which was a finalist in the 2011 Show Me the Music songwriting contest and "Easy" as a finalist in the 2012 Unsigned Only Songwriting Competition. "Communicate" and "Easy" along with several other of Mathur's songs, have ranked high on a number of hit music charts across the world. Mathur is currently performing in Europe and is planning an international tour.
