Jim Perona began his classical guitar studies in 2003 with Steve Ramsdell at the College of Dupage, located right outside of Chicago. After completing his studies with an Associates in Music degree, Jim transferred to Northern Illinois University (NIU) where he studied under renowned guitarist Fareed Haque. While attending NIU, he performed multiple concerts in various settings including private functions and recital halls. Throughout this time, Jim taught private and group guitar lessons at various studios in the Chicago suburbs. In May 2008, Jim graduated from NIU with a Bachelors degree in Classical Guitar Performance. Two years later, he earned his Masters degree in Classical Guitar Performance at the New England Conservatory under the tutelage of world-renowned guitarist, Eliot Fisk. During Jim’s last year in Boston, he studied privately with Flamenco guitar virtuoso Grisha Goryachev, and was immediately immersed in the demanding and intricate style of Flamenco guitar.
He has since relocated back to Chicago where he currently teaches and performs in a variety of musical genres including Classical, Spanish Classical, and Flamenco. He is also a frequently booked artist on gigmasters.com & theknot.com, where his solo guitar arrangements of famous pop/rock songs have delighted clients & music lovers alike.
