Susan Steen is a true Renaissance Chick. A music teacher, well versed in theory and proficient on instruments from piano to guitar to bass to French horn and more, she approaches rock and pop music from a knowledge base few can rival. As the bassist for IKE and the Brett Talley Band, she commands the stage with a kitten-with-a-whip demeanor, complimenting each band's music with a rare combination of restraint and raw power.
With her own solo project, she shifts her focus inward, writing personal songs with universal themes, putting her own spin on the singer-songwriter genre. Her unique alternate tunings and perfectly executed acoustic finger-picking color the songs on her debut full-length album "Start Again," setting her well apart from the typical coffee house crowd. Coupled with her sweet and sincere vocal style, Susan crosses the old-soul wisdom and sophistication of Joni Mitchell with the pop sensibilities and Cosmo Girl appeal of Hayley Williams at her most introspective. With new, tougher songs like "Taking Punches" and "Bleeding Me Dry," pointing toward a fresh direction, Susan Steen will start again once more, moving along her own musical path, one which is certain to have many satisfying stops along the way.
