What makes a polka band so special? Memories of a Midwestern childhood? Stories about the Old Country? Whatever it is, the Smilin’ Scandinavians have it and they’ve been sharing it with audiences all around the Northwest and beyond since they started in 1995 at Cornish College. Since that time they’ve traveled around the US and Canada playing everywhere from small Finnish towns to Branson, MO. Whether at a polka fest in Minnesota or a county fair in Oregon they are first-class entertainers who will leave fans tapping their toes and smiling.
What makes this polka band so special? A performance of the Smilin’ Scandinavians brings together lively polkas, traditional Scandinavian, old-time country and big band swing with folksy humor and superb musicianship. They have the ability to draw an audience’s attention and break down their inhibitions, showing them a rollicking good time. This is NOT your father’s polka band!
Band members include Toby Hanson (bandleader, accordion, vocals); Mike Woolf (tuba); Erick Cohn (drums); Glenn Dudley (banjo/guitar); and Eric Likkel (sax/clarinet).
