Opposite Box is a whirlwind of genre-shifting excitement and mind-bending confusion landing somewhere between the avante-garde eclecticism of Mr. Bungle and the improvisational stylings of The Secret Chiefs 3 and The Mars Volta.
Forged in a sweat-filled, child’s playroom in the southern part of Tennessee, Opposite Box has spent the majority of a decade pushing the bounds of decency and dancing the fine line between absurdity and creativity. The band blends high energy, experimental music – dubbed “weird rock” or “belligerent funk” – with a theatrical, sometimes over-the-top, audience-inclusive stage presence that leaves witnesses wondering what kind of avant-garde circus church they’ve just experienced.
Opposite Box has shared the stage with some of the country’s biggest established and upcoming national acts, including hip-hop legends Nappy Roots, black punk/ska godfathers Fishbone, fringe pop pioneers That Handsome Devil, whose songs have appeared on the Electro Harmonix video games Guitar Hero 2, Rockband 2 and hit Showtime series WEEDS, Mega Man-influenced rock opera The Protomen, Detroit’s own “buttfunk” rockers Downtown Brown (DC-Jam Records) and the insano-aquatic metal group Shrimp! (Originology Records) from Long Beach, CA.
In 2013, OB plans to release an as of yet untitled follow up EP to the band’s 2010 debut, SILLY AND INFANTILE.
