Basement Up is a Collective of Hip-Hop m.c.’s hailing out of Kentucky’s Capital City, Frankfort. The group’s name and meaning were derived from their early recording history, which started in a home basement recording studio, and was later moved to an attic. The name is also a metaphor to signify a person(s) rise from the “bottom to the top” in life situations. It’s those stories of struggle and triumph, along with a shared interest in music that brought the group together.
Since the groups inception, Basement has released a couple of studio albums including No Fillers (September, 2011), and group member Allen Poe’s solo debut UBUNTU (November, 2012). In addition to these releases, Basement’s music has been featured on such music blog sites as YouHeardThatNew.com, KevinNottingham.com, & DjBooth.net. The group has also been afforded various performance opportunities throughout venues in Kentucky, and outside of the state.
The future of Basement Up is one of optimism and promise. In 2013, the group added Basement Up Productions to their brand, which will serve as a video production unit of the group. In addition to this, Basement is currently working on new music releases for Fall/Winter 2013, with production from J57 (Brown bag All-Stars) & Foreign Allegiance (production credits for Big Krit) to name a few, and features from such artist as Von Pea (Tanya Morgan). The group will also continue focusing their current trek of performing, and self-promotion in order to spread their sound to a larger audience.
