Now in 2013, “She’s So Fresh” Showcase V: The Freshest on Film will be brought to you by J.A.G. Music and Media, in partnership with Sound and Vision and Norwood Club, and is poised to once again redefine the perception of women in Hip Hop. Scheduled for this event will be a film screening of All the Ladies Say, a documentary about the struggle and grind of 6 B-Girls from around the country, by Ana “Rokafella” Garcia, followed by a panel discussion featuring representatives from various areas of Hip Hop. The night will close with a short B-Girl performance by Ana “Rokafella” Garcia with two of her Full Circle Soul dancers and then dancing the night away at the after party with DJ Greg Poole spinning Hip Hop classics. The panel discussion will focus around not just being a woman in Hip Hop, but being the ONLY woman: in the crew or cipher (MC’s), in the circle (B-Girls), in the beat battle (Production), as a record label owner (Business). Hip Hop is a male dominated art form but even within that there are moments when the lone woman is truly the only woman, surrounded by males, and forced to protect and/or defend herself, standing her ground while not offending her counterparts. The discussion will center around navigating that setting, tools to do so, and how to implement change for future young female Hip Hop artists to mitigate that experience. Panelists Ana “Rokafella” Garcia: Founder of Full Circle Soul Dance Company, Director of All The Ladies Say Lisa “Cynical” Smith: Filmmaker, Co-Owner of Bucktown USA, Host of Cyn City Wednesdays on Beatminerz Radio Sara Kana: Coordinator of End of the Weak MC Showcase, Founder of Barz and Brastraps All Female Battle Competition Apani B. Fly: MC and Founding Member of PolyrhythmAddicts Pri the Honeydark: MC, Producer, Photographer, Founding member of ANOMOLIES All Female Hip Hop Crew and the Female Producers Association Moderator: Bless Roxwell The panel will be followed by DJ Greg Poole spinning the classics in Hip Hop, Soul and R&B while we party for the rest of the night!
