Bio
Anthony Rankin has stormed the music scene in recent years with a fiery brand of soul-driven rock and roll, built mightily upon his mature songwriting chops, mind-bending musicianship, and that unmistakable voice. With three independent albums under his belt, plus a handful of digital-only releases, Rankin is poised to break with his fourth effort (due early next year). His last CD offering, 2007's 'The Distance,' was heavily praised by regional press and supported nationally by Borders Books & Music, while his 2008 staple “Quicksand” has enjoyed frequent airplay on Pittsburgh radio.
About
Pittsburgh native Anthony Rankin is taking the music scene by storm with infectious hooks, blazing guitar, and an impassioned, unmistakable voice -- the perfect vehicle to deliver songs built upon his confident sense of melody and poignant lyrical landscapes. At age 23, he has released three independent albums, with his fourth due this fall. The Distance, Rankin's latest full-length offering, was launched in October 2007 to rave reviews, a sold-out CD release party at the Hard Rock Cafe Pittsburgh, and a Borders Books & Music-sponsored acoustic tour through the northeast US.
Since its release, local rock radio stalwart WDVE has featured him multiple times on their award-winning Morning Show and hosted his performances at station events like the Jim Krenn & Friends Celebrity Roast, while alt-rock sister station The X recently gave wings to his current single "Quicksand". In addition, national recording artists and Western Pennsylvania mainstays Donnie Iris and The Clarks have invited Anthony to be a recurrent opening act.
Songs like "Under the Radar" -- a track "carefully crafted for pheromonal appeal and hook smarts" (according to Manny Theiner of Pittsburgh City Paper) -- can ensure this wunderkind is destined to make a big noise in the not-so-distant future.
