“It's rare when true technical ability is met with imagination and tasteful restraint. But that's exactly what you get with Amphibious Jones, a quirky trio that threads together progressive rock's chops, psychedelic space rock's expansive soundscapes and punk rock's liberating aggression. Although given to lengthy instrumental passages, Jones never quite crosses over into jam-band territory, especially not with its swirly, warped, edgy guitar work. If late-'70s Pink Floyd and Hawkwind decided to collaborate on an album inspired by Arabian Nights, the result would sound something like this. Always a compelling live act, Amphibious Jones doesn't skimp on the show, and its superb musicianship doesn't interfere with the act's ability to seem delightfully deranged.”

Barefoot and screaming, lead singer Jimmy Curtis the group through an urgent set of feedback-drenched buzz that recalled '70s post-punk acts like Television and Gang of Four. Amphibious Jones's restrained fury instigated a mosh pit during "Lament," a treatise on global warming. The bespectacled Curtis evoked Elvis Costello in his younger, angry years, with a stripped-down, jangly pop sensibility, and no fear of ad-libbing impromptu lyrics. Sadly, Curtis announced the impending departure of the rhythm section, but promised to continue on.”

“Some bands try to throw all of their influences into the mix, and it rarely works. Somehow, Amphibious Jones manages to do it without sounding like it's trying to pull off too much at one time. It's also one of the few bands that are funny without seeming like a novelty act. This might be because the group's humor reaches a lot deeper than most, much like that of Bill Hicks and Doug Stanhope. Although the band's sound falls somewhere between the absurd, bombastic pop metal of the '80s, Joe Satriani and early Mr. Bungle, its live performances are infused with a definite punk-rock aggression and abandon. Like a modern-day Blue Öyster Cult, Amphibious Jones plays high-energy rock with tongue firmly in cheek.”
