About
A Modern Bison is a rock band based in Chicago, Illinois. The band was formed in September, 2006. The group is comprised of singer, songwriter, and guitarist, Mike Tritt; lead vocalist, songwriter, and keyboardist, Dan Schulte; guitarist, Paul Vaicik; bassist, Ryan Douglas; and drummer and backup vocalist, Dolan McMillan. A Modern Bison's name changed from The Downtown Calling, under which they played such Chicago venues as Sylvie's, the Wise Fool's Pub, and the Elbo Room in 2007. The name change was a collaborative decision in November 2007, as the band formed what they felt to be a singular and distinctive identity. The ever-changing, rotating live set list includes over 15 original songs with at least 2 new songs featured every show. A Modern Bison's music has been inspired by an array of pop, classic rock, electronica and alternative rock artists. Some songs hearken back to classic album rock, whereas other songs draw from the sound and style of Radiohead and Wilco. The foundation of the music is generally guitar/vocal pop, upon which the layers of keys, counterpart guitar, bass, and rhythm is carefully constructed. The result is a strong-rooted structure with an electronic and playful exploration of sound.
