“Future Now: 10 musical artists to watch in 2011: A union of former hardcore mavens who have gone shoegaze, American Gods is the project of Memphian Phillip Marfoglio and transplanted Californian Aryeh East. Born out of demos sent long-distance between the two guitarists, the band -- now rounded out by bassist Gilby Worth, drummer Shawn Zorn and local engineer Alan Burcham on guitar -- is set to release its five-song debut EP, Chariot the Ghost, in late January on Austin's Withdrawal Records. Recorded at Ardent Studios and at Burcham's Secret Headquarters studio, the music takes its cues from heavy hitters like Swervedriver and My Bloody Valentine, with American Gods conjuring a fierce wall of noise and a rich tapestry of textures.”
