Nashville artists Alva Leigh and Daniel Ellsworth and the Great Lakes will be stopping through Athens as they tour to build up steam for Allie's self-titled new release. Paste Magazine has turned a kind ear toward her music already with this kind write-up: With her piano-driven songs, 22-year-old Alva Leigh gives us an intimate peek into her life as she grapples with love, leavin’, memories and her southern roots. Southern imagery permeates many of the album’s 10 tracks—she sings about swamplands and Kudzu (“Fire in Your Belly,”) and heaven and the devil (“Scoundrel”). “Hurricane” is a boozy, trombone-laced romp through her bayou hometown after the storm. Leigh’s straightforward songwriting style and lingering vocals lend a world-weary sound to tracks like album closer “Quick Bright Things." — Kristen Callihan (http://www.myspace.com/alvaleigh) Daniel Ellsworth and the Great Lakes have been quite kindly reviewed by the Tennessean: "3 1/2 out of 4 Stars. Jeff Tweedy and Josh Ritter are among the names dropped on the Nashvillian's latest bio — and fittingly so, it turns out, as Ellsworth shares their knack for twisting old-soul sensibilities into unmistakably modern tunes... There's the punchy piano work and light soul vocal inflections of classic Elton John, but it's charged with the sort of funky snap and schoolyard melodies that currently light up VH1's Top 20." ~ The Tennessean ~ (http://www.myspace.com/danielellsworthmusic) Tom Eisenbraun has yet to release a CD, find critical acclaim, or be mentioned in the same sentence as Wilco, but is currently crafting his musical endeavors into an enjoyable album-type concept. Come listen as he weaves the known universe into a rhythmically ordered rendition of itself by means of spruce, steel, sinew, symbol, and a little bit of alliteration. (http://www.myspace.com/tomeisenbraun) Doors open at 8:30, show starts at 9, and we will, indeed, be melting faces. $5 at the door, and bring your pretty little faces: The more the meltier.
