    Seductive, passionate music from the heartland of tango, Alturas presents a mixture of traditional and modern jazz-infused tangos. Inspired by the music of Argentina, ‘Alturas’ combines influences from classical, latin and tango to create a unique blend of haunting melodies with jazz-inspired solos. With acclaimed performances for the National Argentine Day celebrations in Canberra, at the request of the Argentinean Embassy, their debut CD, Café con Tango includes works by Astor Piazzolla, Pablo Ziegler, Fernando Egozcue, as well as traditional tangos and some original tango-inspired pieces. Alturas regularly perform to sellout audiences so be sure to book ahead for this one!     A different and exciting take on Latin American music! Three diverse groups: Alturas, Coro Austral and Trio Matiz present an evening of latin art music far removed from the stereotypical! This concert sets the scene for you to discover that there is so much more to Latin American music than Salsa! Alturas: Inspired by the music of Argentina, Alturas combines influences from classical, latin and tango to create a unique blend of haunting melodies with jazz-inspired solos. 'Alturas' have been performing as a group since 2009 with its five members playing flute/bandoneon, violin/viola, saxophones/clarinets, piano and double bass. Coro Austral : Since its formation in 2010 by Artistic Director Margot McLaughlin Coro Austral has gained an excellent reputation as a choral ensemble specialising in the authentic presentation of Spanish and Latin American choral music to a very high standard. Their performance is inspired by the extraordinary wealth of music from Cuba. Trio Matiz: Trio Matiz consists of highly-regarded Chilean musicians Hernan Flores and Janis Carter with cellist Imogen Granwal. The trio gives new and stimulating interpretations of traditional, contemporary and original Latin American songs for guitar, voice, cello and percussion.

    Alturas - Ascension at Bondi Junction Hear Alturas perform selected pieces from their Ascension concert series. Featuring favourite jazz-infused tango pieces, interspersed with some Brazilian and Latin Jazz trios. Plenty of room for those who like to dance to non-traditional tango, as well as fantastic food from the menu.

    Contemporary tango group Alturas perform selected pieces from their Ascension concert series. Combining tango with strong jazz influences, Alturas have expanded their repertoire to also include some Brazilian and Latin Jazz pieces. In 2013, Alturas released their debut CD to enthusiastic audiences, receiving regular airplay on ABC Radio National and ABC Classic FM. If you love the music of Piazzolla, Ziegler and contemporary tango composers, you will be thrilled by this performance.
