Fifty-six seconds of anticipatory technofreakout burst into a massive salvo of power-rock guitars, and it is the guitars that take center stage for most of “Machine.” That is, until the rolling thunder of the song’s bridge kicks like a motorcycle into fourth gear as the bass weaves a Tool-esque polyrhythm across a kick-drum-laden backbeat before the song kicks back into the final refrain, in which the vocal entreats us to “Kill the machine.””
