About
ASKING QUESTIONS ABOUT THE STORY OF HUMANITY
FROM A NEW ZEALAND PERSPECTIVE
"New Zealand Stories"

"Everyone has a story, we share your story through our music."
Alms Electronica soundtracks present a sonic questioning about where we have been in order to develop some sense of where we might be heading. The tracks imbue the sense of asking these modern questions based on Christian faith. We embrace the concept of exploring what it is that we all have in common and celebrate all that we share which is good in us.
We come at this from the perspective that we are constantly learning from our fans about the state of the world and what we might be able to contribute to it. All great art reflects life and so it is that we work closely with and serve charities and non government organisations in order to gain direct insight into the issues facing humanity. Rather then to tell and sell our viewpoint on the answers, we present with our music a sense of inspirational questioning. We hope to bring some of the understandings that we learn into greater public awareness.

The first album “New Zealand Stories” is composed, solely performed (all instruments except Cello on “The Rain Cloud & The Sunshine) and produced by Glyn MacLean with co executive production (direction) and conceptual input by Yulia MacLean.

Alms Electronica aims to create "music with a conscience" inspiring listeners to contemplate investment in a sustainable future for all of humanity. The music also serves to promote and export the values and beauty of New Zealand.
ANZAC TRIBUTE
It all began with the tune "Anzac Tribute" which was donated to the Royal Returned Services Association of New Zealand. The track was used in 2007 to help support a call to 'remembrance' of the men and women who gave their lives for our current freedoms.
AWAKEN
We composed the tune "Awaken" while observing the plight of the endangered species of Hectors Dolphins, endemic to New Zealand and the lack of accountability and policing of private corporate entities which profit while eradicating a whole species. The tune quickly caught the attention of libraries licensing into MTV and Hollywood movies.
FATHERS VOICE
The piano instrumental "Fathers Voice" to help raise money during the "Gulu Walk" for the village of Gulu in Uganda. Seeing the fundraising target met left a very special feeling. We care about the "Lost Children" of Uganda and stepping in now to put a stop to generational cycles of violence.
PERFUME FOR ARABIA
In the wake of September 11 there was a considerable ill will from the West towards Arabic people.
The track “Perfume for Arabia” was created to promote a sense of cultural diversity
and integration through charing and celebrating the beauty of each culture.
PERUVIA
“Peruvia” promotes developing the growth of the self esteem of the common people,
who have long outlived the aspirations of a succession of empires.
AMAZING GRACE
After Yulia performed a free concert for cancer patients and caregivers in Christchurch, New Zealand we learned that a beautiful young woman named Roberta had passed away within two months of the concert. Yulia had given Roberta her bunch of flowers just to see her smile. Inspired by Roberta, we composed "Amazing Grace" to share in podcasts as a track to inspire cancer patients and their caregivers with our thanks for their amazing grace. We made this podcast available worldwide on iTunes as a free download.
HARMONY IN GAZA
More recently we composed the tune "Harmony in Gaza" to contemplate the Gaza conflict from the perspective of the children. We ask the question "What happens when we teach our children to hate each other?".
EVAPORATE
"Evaporate" was composed immediately after selling our sports car and taking up public transport as we literally 'walk the talk' and lower our carbon credits. We took one last drive, contemplating the demise of fossil fuels and then jumped on the keyboards to pay tribute to the independence the motor vehicle has given us all. And we look forward to environmentally friendly technological solutions before our good air 'evaporates'.
