“NORTHWEST SOUND: fact – Juneau sucks for live music?By TYLER PRESTON Whalesong FALSE! I thought I’d just give you a quick review of who’s who and what’s where in Juneau for music these days: First and foremost is The Alaskan Hotel & Bar. They’re the most dependable establishment for finding live music. They host an Open Mic Night every Thursday without fail, and have a band most weekends. The Viking is a close second though; they don’t have open mic night, but they do karaoke on the weekends and often have bands in as well. "Captain Angry" is very popular at the Viking, (their lead guitar player Brian has a penchant for rocking out while standing on the bar, so I think that might have something to do with it) Squire's Rest hosts open mic every Wednesday, and then at the First Friday of each month, there is a Sit-In with The Band at The Rendezvous. thewhalesong.wordpress.com/.../northwest-sound-fact-juneau-sucks-for-live-music/”

“Thursday, June 26, 2008 Story last updated at 6/26/2008 - 10:24 am Folkin' A's: not a bluegrass band By Erik Stimpfle For the Juneau Empire. The Folkin's A's are a tie-dye-wearing motley crew of Juneau musicians led by a young woman with a beautiful voice. Singer Brooke Morgan writes all of the band's songs, with the exception of one that was written by the bass player, Allan"woodsy Al"Nichols. Steve Kunz on drums and Wade Panzich on electric guitar complete the solid folk rock quartet. "I would consider us classic folk rock with a twist," Morgan said, when asked to describe their genre of music. "We got a lot of backgrounds between us. Classic rock and some funk, so we try to put it all together and come up with something cool." ”
