“Sunday came with weather warnings, but the crowd didn’t care. As long as they were selling beer and barbecue the party would continue. The rain actually held off for most of the day until just before Charlie Daniels’ set - then it came down in buckets. Poor Charlie never even got to play. Sorry Charlie, now we’ll never know if Johnny won that fiddle or not. In the meantime everyone took cover in the “Outter Limits” lounge and line danced while the dj spun the latest in country dance hits. There was also a short show by twelve year old Alex Shaw. This young buck wields a LesPaul like he has something to prove, and by god he proved it. Playing against backing tracks Shaw blazed through Hendrix, Van Halen and the Black Crowes singing every note and nailing every lick on his guitar. Hey world, some advise...watch out for this kid! “Joining Imbasciani on stage for a brief set was Alex Shaw, and the energy he brought to the stage was tangible. Originally inspired by the Jonas Brothers, the 11-year old now draws inspiration from Randy Rhoads and Slash. He loves performing "for the exhilaration of it and giving back to the community by playing for charities." The two guitar prodigies kicked off the day-long festival featuring Los Lobos, Ryan Shaw, Shaun Murphy, Lightnin' Malcolm, and The Selwyn Birch Band. Read more...”

“The 2011 Sarasota Blues Fest started with Mike Imbasciani and Alex Shaw followed by a wonderful up-and-comer, Selwyn Birchwood (who won the Ticket To The Blues contest to play at the festival), then Mississippi axman Lightnin' Malcolm tore things up; Shaun Murphy made her second appearance here; Ryan Shaw wowed the crowd with his sweet voice and Los Lobos brought the house down (as expected). The 2012 show with Delbert McClinton, Paul Thorn and more will certainly do the same.”

“History The Sarasota Blues Fest was started in 1991 by the Sarasota Blues Society as a way to celebrate the blues in the Sarasota community. Concert producer Barbara Strauss took over the festival in 1993 and ran it until 2010. In 2011 Strauss sold her stake in the festival to ExtremeTix, an entertainment company that tickets and produces a number of other festivals around the country. The festival was originally held at the Sarasota County Fairgrounds but moved to the Ed Smith Stadium Complex in 2005 and has been held there ever since. The Sarasota Blues Fest has a rich history of finding and showcasing young and up and coming talent and also bringing accomplished musicians to the community. Numerous Grammy Award winners and Rock and Roll Hall of Famers have graced the stages over the years and the festival seeks to continue that tradition. ”

“It is tradition that each year a local musical child prodigy opens the Sarasota Blues Fest. This year two amazing kids will share that spot. Check out 11 year old guitar sensation Alex Shaw. Radio spot WSRZ”

“Kids have an amazing ability to absorb and learn at a speed that’s nearly unheard of for adults. Some kids are just pure naturals at playing guitar and at a young age they can make seasoned guitarists’ jaws drop against the floor. In this article we look at some kids who had exceptional playing ability well beyond their years. At 11 years old Alex Shaw prefers playing Eddie Van Halen riffs on his guitar to spending all his time playing video games. His fingers slide along the frets with ease. Hammers, taps – he plays so effortlessly that it seems as if he’s played the guitar for over a decade.
