“Wiltshire songwriter Alan Pettifer, who penned the song Forever Young as a tribute to the town’s part in repatriation ceremonies, has rounded up a number of his friends and organised a concert to raise money for the Royal British Legion and Afghan Heroes. “The town deserves something,” Mr Pettifer said. “The repatriations finish this year in Wootton Bassett and without the Royal British Legion veterans lining up, they would not be the same. Mr Pettifer said he had been receiving thousands of emails about the song from as far away as Canada and he has even been asked to record more charity songs. “It’s been strong in Canada – but they’ve lost 250 and they have a similar thing to Bassett. All the bodies come in to one airport and take the highway to the hospital. The line-up for the concert includes the Colette Cassin Quintet, who performed the recording of Forever Young, Kenny Barnes, Stevie Simpson and the Cold Feet Band. ”
