About

Adrian and the Sickness are an incredibly tight and talented, all-girl power trio, based in Austin, TX.  They play rock music ... and they do it well. The band is a well-oiled machine, the brainchild of Adrian Conner, singer/songwriter/lead guitarist.  She is joined by Heather Webb on bass and Melodie Zapata on drums.  On stage, their mind-blowing energy and rapport is an experience to behold. The music has been called “exciting, rambunctious and kinda scary” in Guitar Player Magazine (2007) and “as raw and edgy as a Supersuckers after-party at the Playboy Mansion” in the Houston Press (2006). Due to their amazing live show and diligent DIY approach to the music business, the sickness is rapidly spreading.

Adrian is the dreadlocked bandleader of this trio.  She is the singer, songwriter and she grinds on that Gibson SG. According to the Austin Chronicle, Adrian “plays with a technical proficiency that tops many of her male counterparts” and has been deemed “a guitar hero” by Go-go's bassist and songwriter, Kathy Valentine. In addition to her impressive skills on the electric guitar, she gives one hell of a live performance. Her “day-job” is imitating Angus Young in the all-girl AC/DC tribute band, Hell's Belles, based in Seattle.   She takes her job very seriously.  When she is on stage with Hell's Belles, she channels the energy of Angus... head-banging, back-spinning, that little duck-walk move, and stripping down to her unmentionables, all while ripping AC/DC flawlessly.  She does that, every other weekend or so, from coast to coast.  When she's not with Hell's Belles, Adrian's either touring and playing shows with The Sickness or at her home office, working on building and promoting her business.   On stage with The Sickness, Adrian is able to showcase her songwriting talent and voice, as well as melt faces with her ripping guitar solos. The entire club is her stage, so don't be surprised if she jumps up on the bar or knee-slides across the dance floor

Heather Webb takes care of the low-end on stage and the technical side of Adrian and the Sickness. From reggae-style grooves to fast and furious punk, she throws bass in your face, and Austin Daze Magazine (2007) says “bassist Heather Webb, does everything right.” She has been a part of the band since before their Austin debut in February 2004. That spring, she gave up teaching high school math, to work on turning a rock-star dream into a profitable enterprise. She works daily on graphic design, merchandising and promotion of the business. In addition, Heather also directed and produced 3 music videos and a live DVD, recorded at Momo's in Austin, December 2006.

Melodie Zapata is the drummer and newest addition to the Sickness family.  She has been playing with Adrian in Hell's Belles since 2004.  Her solidity and power behind the skins has earned her much respect among accomplished musicians and even a feature in Drummer! Magazine. She is solid as a rock, she is technical, and she is experienced. Drawing from both rock and jazz influences, Melodie has brought a hard-driving, yet intricate and unique sound to The Sickness. She joined Adrian and the Sickness in late December 2007, on tour through the mountains of Colorado, opening for Hell's Belles. Adrian and Melodie both pulled double duty for 5 nights in a row, and she's been in the band ever since.
