“Levy brought a folksy voice with earnest lyrics that came straight from the heart. Ever hear a song that just seems so much like the soundtrack to your life that it’s kind of creepy? Yeah, that was his music for me. He sang things like, “I want to tell you how much I miss you… but even if I did, you wouldn’t understand”. His catchiest song of the evening was the up-tempo, “Repeat”, with a refrain that merely went, “You just repeat, repeat, repeat the past.” I am a big fan of fancy poetry and clever wordplay, but I often forget how powerful some really simple, to-the-point lyrics can be. Hands down, the most relevant song of the evening was “The Cold.” With Levy crooning about how he couldn’t stand the cold, I thought to myself, “How does he know?!?!” Nonetheless, Aaron Levy from White Rhino gave a great set. “The best way I can think to describe White Rhino (and Aaron Levy's) sound is to say that if Martin Scorsese decided to direct a film about Southern mobsters in Charleston, Aaron Levy and White Rhino would be the blue-collar rock band playing in the beer joint where the good ol' wiseguys congregated. Opening ambitiously with "And When the Sky was Opened" and continuing with "January," Levy and the rest of the band hit their stride early. "Papa George" was next. That tune was a holdout from Levy's Library Fire days, and with good reason. The catchy "Ooh-ah-ooh" chorus stick in your head.”

“Like so many songs, this is apparently one of those bragging anthems in which the singer goes on about his fame, money, and a whole bunch of other self-centered crap -- the kind of talk that, in any other context, would lead people to conclude that the speaker is an awful person, avoid him on sight, and say mean things about him behind his back. I have no idea why this kind of talk somehow becomes acceptable when it's backed up with a beat, but whatever. And while that alone would be bad enough, Levy takes his song to an unforgivable level of irritation by including the most excruciatingly annoying hook I have ever heard. With its chirping pitch, pointless repetition, and sheer inanity, it sounds like something you'd hear a parrot say. "I'm a, I'm a, a diva," goes the song -- again and again and flipping again. We get it, Aaron. You're a diva. - ”
