“Recording an actual album was more tough, but they'd do bits and pieces when time allowed. That's when it became apparent XPrime wouldn't be the same band that won Rock the Ice – the Supertramp-inspired prog rock gave way to a more funky, feel-good sound. "We had a lot of really intricate songs … if you're not a musician they were hard to enjoy," says Taylor. "So our main goal was make music that everyone will like. Not in the fact we were trying to sell out, it's just we wanted to enjoy our music more ourselves." The result is Here We Are, a five-song introductory EP showcasing the band's pop IQ and '70s influence. The gist was recorded over the Christmas break after the band agreed on Jan. 20 deadline to get it finished. They caught a break when siblings Steph and Gab had the house to themselves.”

“The EP, christened Here We Are, will be released Jan. 20. The celebrate, the group is planning a CD release party that night at the Q Club on Queen Street in Niagara Falls when the group is on a bill with Young Cardinals, The Little Black Dress, Brendan Distefano and Lindsay Alward. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. As for the music, Taylor describes the group’s songs as feel good funk rock despite some heavy lyrics. “There’s dark thoughts on top of those happy songs,” Taylor said. Mercier handled engineering and production chores for the EP, which was recorded mostly in the group’s basement studio/rehearsal space in Welland, although the drum tracks were recorded at Winding Path Studios in Niagara Falls. To help finance the group, XPrime has performed “cover” shows, which wound up putting the group in high demand locally. Those shows have helped finance the CD as well as allow the group to purchase bigger and better equipment. ”

“Xprime getting Xposure. Xprime is getting some excellent exposure lately, winning several local music competitions, most recently Rock the Ice in Niagara Falls. The band recently took top honours at the Rock the Ice band battle in Niagara Falls, and after playing steady gigs at The Hub in Port Colborne and taking the stage at Niagara’s Olympic Torch Relay events, they are looking to cement their fan base. Sid, along with Phil Taylor, drums/vocals, Francois-Gabriel Bourget, guitar/vocals, Neil Carson, base/vocals, make up Xprime, a band that’s caught attention for its signature harmony vocals and original sound. Everything Xprime does is different, explains Sid. Some songs have more of a ballad feel, while others are made with a heavy distortion sound. “It appeals to all ages,” he said. “I call it fusion because that’s the only way to refer to it. It’s a fusion of everything.””
