As part of this years Freedom Festival The Warren has teamed up with Brewery Wharf and the Youth Service to host 2 days of great local music. Brewery Wharf is situated on the corner of Pier Street/Humber Street on the fruit market and all shows will be free entry. Brewery Wharf will also be offering the best in local ales and other brews so come visit the bar. Hull’s World Music Festival marking it’s 10th Anniversary with a line up entirely locally based world acts, The event is a fun day out for all the family with food stalls and lots of fun activities and games for the whole family and compared by the effervescent Ukulele Bill. Acts confirmed so far include: The Nile Group– Hull based Sudanese group who bring a smile to everyones faces with their eclectic mix of sounds inspired by the rhythms of the Nile Belav Saz – This exciting new local duo make their Gig in The Gardens debut with their hypnotic sounds of Kurdistan. Farid Warthilas – Farid is an Algerian Berber singer songwriter who lives up to his name to draw on a huge repertoire of songs with Berber, Algerian, French and Spanish influences (Warthilas means No Borders in the Berber language). Hope Choir – Originally from Congo this group bring songs of hope and inspiration in a central African acapella style seldom heard in Hull. Kingstown Allstars – Hull based multicultural group playing their own brand of dub reggae and mash ups. Upendo Crew – Young, sexy and energetic multinational group blend traditional Congolese music with Western Rap and Pop to deliver a highly original and infectious sound that is sure to get the audience dancing. Humba Rumba – Veteran Hull musicians combine Soukous, Rumba and other African styles with European energy and local observations Glory Family – Young Congolese group spreading messages of hope from a background of growing up in the turmoil of a refugee camp in Rwanda. Hekima and the Bongo Flava – Playing their ever evolving cocktail of reggae, afrobeat, latin, hiphop and rock they promise a high energy performance spreading the message of Love, Peace and Unity.
