When real music lovers get together, especially ones with a true love and feel, with talents that have already been through the treadmill of the industry, avoiding inflated ego's, manufactured talent and false economies, the results are often good . Mix this into the pot....A variety of influences from the greatest, most well respected artists ever to walk this planet, largely organic & classic recording techniques but using the modern aids that allow a non-financed band like The Chancers, the freedom to journey on their musical quests.
Based on the creative hotbed that is the Isle of Wight, Hailing from the same scene as The Bee's, Jackson Analogue and the Motion Pictures. Timelessness is their mission of attainment.
About
RIZLA's & ROB DA BANK (BBC Radio1) UK's no.1 Most inspired Unsigned band
To get into the Bestival free, they sent an mp3 to a Rizla competition after not being selected to take part in the local (Isle of Wight) Bestival competition. It was a last chance entry.......
To their own amazement, they won the accolade of being UK's most inspired unsigned band thanks to BBC Radio 1's Rob Da Bank. This meant they got into the Bestival and performed at the Rizla Arena hosted by The Bays. This resulted in being asked back to perform the Rizla DJ arena the following year along with Don Letts, Terry Hall, Andy Votel, Pete Fowler, Tim Love Lee, Jim Stanton & James Baillie. They also managed get some free Rizla clothing. Instead of leaving the Island, The Chancers turned it on for thousands of festival goers from all over the world.
SO SINCE?
Within that year, The Chancers tried hard to come together and record. After a breezeblock stable they rented became too cold, the guys hired out Haylands farm community hall for a weekend to create more tunage.
Results were encouraging but slow, so it was welcome news when The Bee's invited The Chancers to come in and lay down some tracks at their own special recording studio's.
Soon followed top local Producer (of 'Big brother' theme tune fame) Andy Gray who also invited them to lay down a song he had heard performed live at a local gig. (Ryde theatre)
They have had some fantastic and inspirational support slots including, The Pea's, New Master Sounds, Scratch Perverts, Cuban Brothers & Roy (THE VIBE) Ayers.
They have been honoured enough to be joined live at times by special guests including fellow Isle of Wighters Tim Parkin, all rounder and trumpeteer with Mercury nominated band The Bee's & also Hev McCallum of NME endorsed band "Hugo Frusslinky" gracing the band with flute. Mike Holdcroft & Denzel have also bolstered the ever growing, inter-changing brass section.
Shaking hands with The Beastie Boys, Getting Soul 2 Soul to play the island, Dj-ijng for Rizla as The Invisible Players, a Chancer invited to play onstage with soul singing sensation Jhelisa Anderson aswell as their first London gig are the other highlights that have come the guys way. 2 appearances at 2008's Isle of Wight Festival have seen the bigger sound go live and the lads shaking up a dormant scene for independant Island bands.
Now, The Chancers are approaching the next phase having set-up their own recording studio. The culmination of their pursuits has led to a self-made live album. Their only ongoing aim is to complete the dream album, unrestricted or anti-vibed by the perils of a confused music industry or themselves.....Free Your mind and your ass will follow.
Chances in life for people. Keep on Keepin on, Peace out.
