“A rowdy group of prisoners temporarily hijacked a court services van in the northwest end of the city last night, but neither the guards nor the public were ever in any real danger. The four inmates were locked in the back of the vehicle at the courthouse at 2201 Finch Ave. W., just west of Hwy. 404, when the incident occurred just after 6:30, Toronto Police say. "They just refused to get out," Staff-Sgt. Steve Molgneaux said last night. "And then they started tearing apart the inside of the van." Emergency Task Force officers were called in to help resolve the situation. "But they weren't going anywhere," Molgneaux said. He explained that the prisoners were not able to access the driver's area of the van and the vehicle was parked inside a secured compound. The group surrendered about 45 minutes later, ending the stand-off with police. ”
