“My Tuesday night in sunny California concluded what had been the most strenuous work week of my academic semester so far. After indulging in my nightly fix of KFC and veggie pizza, the homie & CypherLeague affiliate Ben Toren (Aka KoffeeBrown) sent me some new tunes from the Baton Rouge hotspitter LAH. LAH is an affiliate of James Jackson, who I wrote an article on a couple weeks back. It seems Baton Rouge is a hotbed for unknown indie hip hop talent these days. Of the tracks I listened to off of his new project, Lemonade Shade, the particular standout was "Made Up My Mind". In this motivated and forceful track, he compares his moves towards success in the hip hop industry to a chess piece in heated match. LAH manages to effectively merge trapped out energy and intelligent lyricism. My favorite line in the song would have to be: "I gotta get up get out and get a good look//Stay in my lane like a good rook//Dodge the pawn, find the queen//hope she a freak and a good cook..."”
