SATURDAY 3RD AUGUST Passing Clouds presents AFRICA IN MOTION featuring ADESOSE WALLACE & IBILE LIVE: ***ADESOSE WALLACE & IBILE*** (Afro-beat/Funk/Highlife) 8 piece band moving through the roots of West African rhythms to the infectious sounds of Afrobeat and Highlife. Baba Adesose Wallace is a legend of African music. A master percussionist, artist, teacher, philanthropist and social commentator. His inspirations include some of Africa’s luminary musicians and bands - Hugh Masekela, Fela Kuti, Geraldo Pino, Sunny Ade, Miriam Makeba amongst many others. After coming to London in the early 80s, Ade formed IBILE, which means 'Children of the World. He has graced the stage at Glastonbury and WOMAD leaving audiences in awe. His avid enthusiasm for the use of traditional African instruments gave birth to a distinctive sound - brewing an intricate blend of blues, jazz, afro funk and psychedelia - 100% unplugged; the sound churned out by this incredibly dynamic band utilises mostly traditional African instruments. ***KEVIN HAYNES & GRUPO ELEGUA*** (Bata drumming/ Nu World jazz) British-born Trinidadian-descended saxophonist/ percussionist/dancer Hayes possesses a sharp Jackie MacLean attack, mixing driving post bop with Afrocentric rhythms and folkloric influences. Mixing words that reflect the myths and beliefs of the Nigerian Yoruba tribe with trickles of jazz piano and sax with the intense, insistent rhythm of the bata (a Yoruba drum), Grupo Elegua offers a vivacious, original take on Afro-Caribbean musical influences. http://www.reverbnation.com/kevinhayneshisgrupoelegua DJs: FREESTYLE (Colourful Radio) VOLTA 45 (Afro-beat/Afro-funk) PLUS: Tribal face-painting & many more surprises! 8pm-3am FREE before 9pm, £8 after Passing Clouds, 1 Richmond Road, E8 4AA
