About
DODGING OSCAR started as an unnamed, part-time project in the early 2000's with Mike Russo as guitarist and main songwriter. The goal was to bring a modern edge to the old-school metal, but with enough melody to appeal to a wider audience.
The project turned more serious with the addition of bassist Michael Kitchell in 2005. Two years of wood shedding and auditioning vocalists later, Kat joined the project, bringing clever lyrics and an uncanny sense of melody to an already well-developed old-school metal style. With the addition of Dave Rodriguez on drums, work began in earnest. A rigorous practice schedule brought tightness and power to the band as well as inspiring over a dozen new songs, most of which make up DODGING OSCARs debut cd - LASHING OUT. The addition of Mike Ervanian in 2009 kicked it up a notch and the band is collecting new material for their new CD!
DODGING OSCAR has been gigging steadily (as RUE THE DAY until the name change in 2008)and building an audience by both playing live and promoting through myspace.com/DodgingOscar.

Mike Ervanian
Guitars
So we moved a really big rock, then there was Mike!
(Ok, we moved a few rocks....)
Mike plays ERNIE BALL Music Man and John Petrucci Guitars with
ERNIE BALL Slinkys and DUNLOP Gator Grip picks. He uses a DUNLOP Crybaby from Hell
and an series of BOSS effects, a DIGITECH Whammy and a JAM MAN looper
all pumped through a MESA Dual Rectifier Half Stack.
Mike Kitchell
Bass
A veteran of the Chicago Music scene; Michael has played guitar, keyboards,
and bass in multiple bands over the years. A prolific songwriter,
he has written over 200 songs for his own publishing
company - NOCTURNAL EMISSIONS. Michael is dedicated to
METAL music, good times, and trying to bring Cliff Burton back
from the dead every night!
Michael uses WASHBURN and custom basses,
ERNIE BALL bass strings, green DUNLOP picks, MONSTER Cables,
CARVIN power amps and speakers, with BBE and LEXICON processing.
David "Bubba" Rodriguez
Drums
Born in Chicago, Dave has been playing drums for 24 years.
He always loves jammin to all types of music and people;
but preffers pure raw METAL. He loves playing for hours,
gigging and sharing our own style of music
with people. None of that pussy shit here, boy!!
Dave plays a 7-piece Signature Double Bass TAMA Set
(Drummer of SHADOWS FALL). He uses ZILDGEN AVEDIS ride,
hi hats and crashes with SABIAN trashes and splash, 2DW 7000 pedals,
TAMA cymbal stands, PRO MARK 5B's (The Natural) and a DW hi hat stand.
Kat 
Vocals
After years of backup singing and guitar
playing in some local bands, Kat is now
fronting this killer metal band! Always down for the metal,
although previous bands and a few drunkin karaoke
nights include rock both classic and hard. See that
sweaty red-head with the mic screaming
and jumping around on stage? That would be Kat!
Kat uses her vocal chords and what breath she
has left to scream into AUDIX mics.
