The kick-off to another stimulating summer of fun begins at the 5th Annual West Park Arts Fest on Saturday, June 9, 2012 from 11am -5:00pm in Fairmount Park centered at 40th and Parkside Avenue. The festival, featuring performances & activities by a wide range of artists, community organizations, and featured guests is free for the entire community to participate, and will occur rain or shine. Our theme for the 2012 festival, “Friends Across Cultures” is about celebrating the unique multicultural richness of art, nature and community engagement that the Centennial Park district has to share with the entire city of Philadelphia, and will bring people of all ages together for a day of engaging activities on the grounds of the park’s “Centennial District” centered around the new “School of the Future”, with both indoor and outdoor events. Scheduled activities include: · Full-day youth Chess Tournament hosted by ASAP (After School Activities Partnership) · Poetry slam hosted by Greg Corbin of Philly Youth Poetry Movement with cash prizes · Children’s Pavilion with drawing and theatre workshops, crafts, storytelling, face painting, etc. · An outdoor Independent Artist Stage hosted by Lil’ Drummaboy Recordings · Independent Film Screenings hosted by Urban Suburban Film Festival & Other Partners Additionally, this year the festival is expanding even further into the park with showcase activities planned at Concourse Lake and the Shofuso Japanese House and Gardens. Activities for the 2012 festival will be provided by The Franklin Institute Science Museum, Mann Center, Please Touch Museum, Philadelphia Zoo, Kyo Daiko Taiko Drummers, Urban Suburban Film Festival, International Opera Theatre, Philadelphia Parks Alliance, Settlement Music School/West Philadelphia Branch, Philadelphia Youth Poetry Movement (PYPM), Chosen Dance Company, Spiral Q, CAMARATA Philadelphia, Tree House Books, Art Rising, and Public Citizens for Children and Youth, (partial list). Planning & Coordination for the Annual West Park Arts Fest is led by the West Park Cultural Center which promotes a thriving West Park environment by using arts and culture as a central tool that help youth tap their creative and academic potential, and where residents can access the arts, education, and other support programs that contribute to their personal development, helping them come together as a strong community. Up to date information about the festival & ongoing programming can be found at www.westparkcultural.org

Q: Who motivated you to start doing music, where do you see yourself in the next 3 years, and name 5 artists that are hot right now that you would like to work with.
A: Thank you for the questions! To answer you first question, I was motivated to do music by Michael Jackson, Nas, Run DMC, Jay Z, Pac, BIG, etc. In the next 3 years I see myself traveling the world and inspiring others with my music along side my family and friends that supported me since day one. 5 artists that are hot in my opinion that I would like to work with are Nas, Wale, Stalley or Dizzy Wright, Logic, and Kendrick Lamar .
