Q: When you are writing does the idea for the lyrics come first or a melody?

A: For me the idea usually begins with a 'line idea' like, 'I can still taste the taste of those sweet painted lips'(SWEET PAINTED LIPS), then the story evolves in lyrics. Usually the flow of the lyric defines the mood and meter, thus defines the melody. It's why each song ends up sounding different from each other. Rarely does an melody riff come first, like IN CONTROL but it is the exception.
