Q: William, I also "built" my first guitar amp from castoff record player electronics. wasn't very loud but it did have a nice breakup. r/Armando

A: Armando, thanks for posting! Doing yourself an amp out of junk parts is very exciting. I specially love low wattage amps, they're second to none in a recording studio. I upgraded my first 5watt (with a single 6V6) to 12 (2xEL84); it's at the time my favourite amp with no doubt. I have been using it for years with no problem at all. It has a fantastic crunchy and clear sound and works great either at the studio or in small, medium and big venues, where everything goes through P.A.
