Bio
The Seven Levels use sincere, powerful song writing and captivating live performances to share the moments of their lives with their audience.
All four members of the Seven Levels hail from small town Saskatchewan, and thus live and play music with the small town values that have been engrained into their psyche from a very young age. Each song is crafted with honesty (as you’ll hear in the stories) and simplicity (as you’ll hear in the melodies), and it is these characteristics that are used to bring to life some of their most personal and heartfelt experiences.
It was June of 2006 when Kelly McTavish (vocals, guitar), and Parker Rice (drums), formed the Seven Levels as a vessel for McTavish to perform his original compositions. Less than a year later, the Seven Levels were in the studio recording their first full length LP. The self-titled debut was recorded, mixed, and mastered in Saskatoon at Audio Art Recording and featured some of McTavish and Rice’s close friends and mentors as musicians. The album was released to a near sold out crowd at the Broadway Theatre, February 8, 2008 in Saskatoon.
Soon after the CD Release Seven Levels ran into problems, their bass player and good friend Michael Kwas made the decision to quit the band and move to rural Saskatchewan. With tour dates booked in support of the self-titled debut, McTavish and Rice quickly contacted Steven Maier of Saskatoon's “Sexually Attracted to Fire” to fill in on bass until a replacement could be found. As McTavish, Maier, and Rice began to rehearse together they found an instant musical connection, writing a handful of new songs within the first week. It became clear that the Radio Star Song writing award winner Maier would become more than a replacement in Seven Levels. Soon after the acquisition of Maier, Gent Laird became the group`s permanent bass player and Maier moved over to guitar. The French-Canadian Laird had just returned to Canada after playing a year and a half of stand-up bass on cruise ships and was eager to lay his jazz and latin influenced bass lines on the Levels moody folk-rock foundation.
In the short time the group has been together they have already built a reputation as powerful songwriters and their audience continues to grow with each live performance. With their fresh line-up the Seven Levels continue to play clubs and festivals throughout the prairies promoting the first Seven Levels release and feverishly writing new material for an upcoming full length album, being released March 2009.
