Keramat (English mean sacred) is a stone’s throw away neighborhood from Kuala Lumpur. A Middle-Class Malay neighborhood; there’s nothing sacred or magical there. But in a corner of this unsacred Keramat, three blood brothers decided to grab the microphone and verbalize their mind, speak for a change.They rap not in a formal type of Malay language, they sling a daily-used-layman slang so that their sound would be more honest and truly convey their expression. The voice of people from Keramat.

To remind them of their roots and where they are from, they took the first three digits of Keramat’s postcode (54200) and formed the name 5forty2. Started with just three members, 5forty2 now have become merrier with another four additional brethren.

Their ideology is simple, that the main purpose of human’s creation is to submit and obey their Creator. And they manifest that principle of life by voicing out for the oppressed people; rejecting tyranny since human can only be slave to their Creator; reminding their listener that there is Creator up there and life is not simply just for material pleasure.

Six sick songs released on the net, so far. One of the songs, Ushahidu (Budak-Budak Zaman Sekarang) was widely spread among the Malays here in Malaysia as well as outside the country. 5forty2 is now working for their first EP estimated to be released at the end of 2009.

Tidak ada apa yang keramat di Keramat. Cuma di suatu sudut kawasan ini, tiga adik beradik mula berjuang mengangkat mikrofon dan menyuarakan apa yang terdapat dalam fikiran mereka, bersuara untuk perubahan. Mereka tidak rap dengan bahasa Melayu tinggi, mereka melontarkan slanga harian orang Kuala Lumpur supaya lebih jujur suaranya dan benar-benar menggambarkan ekspressi mereka. Untuk Mengingatkan mereka kepada asal usul mereka, mereka mengambil tiga digit pertama poskod kawasan Keramat (54200) dan membentuk nama 5forty2. Bermula dengan hanya tiga anggota, 5forty2 kini semakin meriah dengan kehadiran empat orang lagi saudara.

Ideologi mereka mudah, tujuan utama diciptakan manusia adalah untuk menyerah diri dan mematuhi Penciptanya. Dan mereka memanifestasikan prinsip hidup tersebut dengan bersuara untuk orang tertindas, menolak sebarang kuku besi kerana manusia hanya layak menjadi hamba kepada Penciptanya sahaja; mengingatkan pendengar bahawa ada Pencipta di atas sana dan hidup bukan semata-mata untuk kepuasan material.

Enam buah lagu telah diedarkan melalaui internet setakat ini. Salah satunya adalah lagu Ushahidu (Budak-Budak Zaman Sekarang) yang tersebar luas di kalangan pendengar Melayu baik dalam negara mahupun luar negara. 5forty2 kini sedang dalam proses menerbitkan EP pertama mereka yang dijangka akan muncul pada akhir tahun 2009.
