“PAMusicScene: How do you find the balance between being a live band and a band capable of putting out great studio works such as your debut EP? Mike: Well, it all kind of goes full circle. When you play live you give off a lot of energy. When you go into the studio things are a bit more laid back. So for us we try to harness that live feeling. It’s all on how you want to sound. Playing tracks out live before you take them to the studio gives you a good understanding them before you commit them to tape. We try to keep the two things connected.”

“Breathing IT ALL IN - Mike Kaminski uses a metaphor born of childhood to describe the sound of his eclectic band. “You know when you were a little kid and you would sit down to eat dinner, your parents would portion the food out for you?” the 24-year-old lead vocalist and guitarist for 3 to Breathe asked. “Well, you would always end up mashing it all together anyway, and it would be delicious and you’d love it. That’s us.” 3 to Breathe is a Wilkes-Barre-based band that also includes Nick Davison, 24, on bass and Cameron Lewis, 36, on drums. The guys favor different genres, from classic rock to ska and indie rock, which has helped them produce a signature sound. “We all have our own styles, and this is what came out,” Kaminski said. “It wasn’t planned, but people started calling it things like alt rock and grunge.” 3 to Breathe most often hears its sound likened to that of alternative metal act Chevelle and rock band Tool.”

“Sometimes ‘hard-rock’ means blues based penis waggling; 3 to Breathe definitely play hard-rock, but it’s ‘alternative’, which usually means it has less overt connection to the blues, and is less (or, as in this case, completely un-) interested in the usual cliches and preening idiocy of the leather clad rock archetype. This is deep grooving, melodically rich, committed and passionate music, and it’s basically most excellent. Recommended. ”
